USGS StreaMail
USGS StreaMail is a system for accessing real-time river stage and streamflow information from hand-held wireless devices, such as cell phones and Blackberries. All you have to do is send an email or text message to "streamail@usgs.gov" and use a USGS station number in the "Subject" line. In a few minutes you'll receive an email with the most recent stage and streamflow data.

Des Plaines River Dye Study helps scientists examine possible Asian Carp egg pathways through fractured rock

USGS Illinois Water Science Center Hydrologist Bob Kay explained the Des Plaines River Dye Study to NBC Chicago on November 16, 2011. Scientists are studying the link between the Des Plaines River and the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal through ground water pathways to determine if it may be possible for Asian Carp eggs to migrate through fractured rock.
